Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) - Char-Em United Way is the local administrator of the Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program, which brought$46,090 of federal funds into the community in 2015-16, or phase 32. These funds were distributed to: Manna Food Project, Salvation Army, Women's Resource Center, St. Francis, and St. Vincent DePaul. For the 2016-17 phase 33, EFSP funds total $25,328 and will be distributed to Manna Food Project, Salvation Army, Women's Resource Center. These are federal funds expressly earmarked for housing, utility, food and mass shelter. The reduction in funding is due to the federal formula used with Charelvoix County no longer qualifying for its own disbursement, but rather being part of a State set-aside allotment.
